Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed worry over the Black Stars’ inconsistent run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, stressing that head coach Otto Addo’s performance does not deserve praise just yet.

The Black Stars currently sit top of Group I with 19 points after eight games, thanks to a 1-0 win over Mali in Accra on Monday. But that victory came only days after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Chad, a result that sparked criticism from fans and pundits.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show sighted by Happyghana.com on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Adams said the team’s campaign has been far from convincing and warned of tougher tests ahead.

“Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will watch on TV. We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to comfortably say that, as far as our group is concerned, nobody can overtake us,” he cautioned.

He added that Addo must sharpen his tactical approach if Ghana is to secure qualification.

“If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is a lot of room for improvement. Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility. But the question is, for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?” he questioned.

Ghana, despite leading the group, still need at least four points from their last two games to officially book a spot at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
