Some section of Ghanaians has been blaming the Head Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana for his side failure to triumph over the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt in other to clinch in the quarter-final.
Tunisia brush Ghana aside on Monday to reach last eight of the ongoing AFCON on 5-4 penalty shootouts.
Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports’ with Ohene Brenya Bampoe Ex-Ghana international, Ntow Gyan, said the Head Coach should not be blamed for his side failure to walkover the Tunisian National team. Coach Kwesi Appiah did averagely well considering the pressure from Ghanaians but we should know that the players are those on the field, not the coach.”
The Former Asante Kotoko great however assert that part of the blame should be apportioned to the technical team for not helping Kwesi Appiah. “How many times did we see the technical team advising Kwesi Appiah during games? There were sitting down and looking at him. The technical team failed Kwesi Appiah, they didn’t help him.”
He, therefore, advised the Head Coach not to call players who failed to respect his orders. “If I am Kwesi Appiah, I will sack all the players who didn’t play their hearts out but I understand it’s not everyone who is that bold to take such a decision.”
“We should let go of the so-called senior players and start building a new team with the youthful players and local players because the senior players are not helping,” he added.
However, Kwesi Appiah, believes there would have been a different outcome to their AFCON round of 16 tie against Tunisia if the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was being implemented at this stage of the competition.
Andre Ayew had a goal ruled out in the first half after the referee adjudged Thomas Partey to have handled the ball before set it his captain for the back heel finish.
