Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has been handed a late call-up to the Black Stars squad for the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, replacing injured forward Inaki Williams.

The 26-year-old comes into the team on the back of fine form in the English Championship, where he has scored five goals and provided three assists in just nine league appearances this season. His brace at the weekend underlined his sharpness in front of goal, making him a timely addition to Otto Addo’s squad.

Williams, 31, had been included in Ghana’s original 24-man squad but suffered an injury while featuring for Athletic Bilbao in their La Liga clash against Mallorca on Saturday. The setback has ruled him out of the crucial qualifiers.

The Black Stars are currently in Casablanca, Morocco, preparing for Wednesday’s clash with the Central African Republic at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes. They will then return home to wrap up their Group I campaign against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Ghana sit top of Group I with 19 points and two matches to go, as they chase a historic fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup.
