C.K Akonnor urges new Black Stars players to fight for positions

Former Asante Kotoko coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has urged new players invited into Black Stars ahead of the AFCON qualifier to take advantage of the opportunity to secure their places in the squad.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah handed call ups to seven new players for Ghana’s double header against South Africa and Sao Tome in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

“They should know that if they do well, they would be heard of,” Akonnor told footy-Ghana.

“This time around we have a lot of players both in Ghana and abroad and they should seize this opportunity to give their all in order to repose the confidence the coach had in them before inviting them,” he added.

The new players invited to camp are Mohammed Salisu (Valladolid) and Idrissu Baba (Mallorca), Christopher Antwi-Adjei (Paderborn), Torric Jebrin(TP Mazembe), Mohammed Kudus(Norsdjaelland), Razak Abalora and Shafiu Mumuni(AshantiGold).

“It is an opportunity for them to come and look at the environment”.

“Some of them have never had the opportunity to be in the team before so it’s always good for them to come and test their strength and fight for a place in the team.”, he concluded.
