The CAF Executive Committee, during its recent meeting, approved an impressive 130% increase in the prize money awarded to champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup competition.

Following their triumph against Al Ahly of Egypt in a thrilling Friday night clash held in Taif, Saudi Arabia, the newly-crowned TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup champions, USMA from Algeria, will now be taking home a substantial prize of USD 500,000.

To put this into perspective, the winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup in 2022 received USD 200,000, which makes this a significant leap in the prize money for the victors.

Notably, the runners-up of the 2023 competition, Al Ahly, will also benefit from this increased prize money, receiving USD 250,000 for their impressive performance. In the previous edition, the runners-up were awarded USD 125,000.

In terms of the overall prize money pool, the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup’s total prize money has surged from USD 325,000 in 2022 to USD 750,000 in 2023.

This substantial increase aligns with CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s commitment to elevate prize money across all CAF Competitions. This move aims to empower football clubs and teams, fostering self-sustainability in the mid-to-long term.

In recent years, CAF has consistently raised prize money levels across various competitions, including the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, CAF Women’s Champions League, and TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, among others. These increases are as follows:

  1. A notable 46% boost in prize money for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
  2. An impressive 150% increase in the prize money for the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
  3. A substantial rise in the AFCON prize money to USD 5 million.
  4. A commendable 45% increase in the prize money for the CHAN competition.
