Catholic Bishop calls for greater evangelization efforts

Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, Auxiliary Bishop of Accra, has called on Catholic women and organizations to prioritize evangelization, especially among the youth.

He emphasized the need for proactive outreach to sustain and grow the Catholic faith, particularly in Ghana, where membership has seen a decline.

He made this appeal during the celebration of Noble Sister Eugenia Ekua Enyimayew’s appointment as the 2nd Vice President of the Supreme Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International.

Addressing the gathering, Bishop Louis stressed the urgency of engaging the younger generation in the Church, ensuring they remain steadfast in their faith regardless of where life takes them.

“We have noticed that our numbers as Catholics in Ghana are declining. This means that we must intensify our efforts in evangelization,” he said.

“Nurturing the younger members, especially those in Junior and Cadet groups, is crucial. “It is essential to structure programs that will keep them engaged, especially in universities and tertiary institutions, so they remain firm in their faith and assume leadership roles in the future.”

The bishop also urged Catholic women to be inspired by Eugenia Ekua Enyimayew’s dedication and service to the Church.

“Where she has reached is a testament to her commitment and faith. If you also dedicate yourselves and aspire towards such achievements, the time will come when we gather to celebrate your accomplishments and give thanks to God,” he stated.

The celebration brought together Catholic leaders, including the Supreme Subordinate President, Grand Presidents, District Presidents, Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary Presidents, as well as friends and well-wishers. Eugenia Ekua Enyimayew has been a devoted member of the Catholic women’s movement for over four decades.

She was initiated into the Ladies Auxiliary on June 4, 1977, at St. Bernadette Auxiliary #325 in Accra. In 1983, she became a founding member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Auxiliary #360 in Adabraka.

Her unwavering commitment and service have seen her rise through various leadership ranks at the Subordinate, District, Grand, and Supreme Subordinate Auxiliary levels, culminating in her current role as the Supreme 2nd Vice President. She is also a member of the Supreme Executive Board and has served on several committees, including the Constitution & Ritual and Hospitality Committees.
