Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reaffirmed that the Ghana cedi remains the only legal tender for all transactions within the country.
Speaking at the launch of the Cedi@60 anniversary organised by the Bank of Ghana in Accra, Dr. Forson cautioned individuals and businesses against the growing practice of pricing goods and services in US dollars, describing it as a violation of Ghana’s financial laws.
He emphasized that all domestic transactions must be conducted strictly in cedis, urging citizens and businesses to show confidence in the national currency.
“We must all support the cedi to maintain economic stability and protect the integrity of our financial system,” the Minister stated.
Dr. Forson’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the government and the Bank of Ghana to strengthen the local currency and promote compliance with financial regulations as Ghana marks 60 years of the cedi’s existence.
