Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has taken the helm as Ghana’s new Chief Justice, sworn in by President John Dramani Mahama.
In his inaugural address, Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie pledged to discharge his duties faithfully, independently, and with integrity.
Highlighting the judiciary’s role as a cornerstone of democracy, he emphasized the need for it to be a sanctuary of hope, where both the poor and powerful can find refuge, rather than a citadel of privilege.
He committed to strengthening judicial independence, improving access to justice, and providing open-door, bipartisan leadership.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie succeeds Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who was suspended and dismissed from office in September 2025.
