The Black Stars of Ghana recorded a 5-1 win over Asian champions Qatar in their second friendly game as the team prepares ahead of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.

It was CK Akonnor’s first win for the national team since his appointment earlier this year.

It was also a resounding victory for the Black Stars after last Friday’s 3-0 defeat to Mali at the Emir Sports Complex in Antalya which had seen the team being criticized for their bad performance.

The Black Stars responded strongly with an improved performance against the Asian champions in today’s game.

Tariq Fosu scored first in the game in the 22nd minute as he tapped in the ball into the net from a Jordan Ayew cross.

Almoez Ali got the equalizer for Qatar in injury time to see the game enter into the break with the two sides leveled up.

The second half started with a lot of intensity from the Black Stars as Thomas Partey effort nearly saw the Stars take the lead in the opening minutes after recess.

The Black Stars in search of the equalizer struck the woodwork twice in the 49th minute as Captain Andre Ayew failed to direct his shoot at goal.

Andre Ayew increase the lead for the Black Stars in the 60th minute with a nice and calm finish as he beat the goalkeeper.

Samuel Owusu with his solo run curled the ball into the net to score Ghana’s third goal of the game in the 65th minute.

Andre Ayew and Caleb Ekuban rounded it up for the Black Stars with the fourth and fifth goals.

The Black Stars take on Sudan next month in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
