As part of the animal production support under the Young Farmer Business Academy (YFBA) program introduced by Kosmos Innovation Center in selected partnering universities, CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Science (CKT-UTAS) has successfully completed the second round of livestock distribution, empowering 66 young agripreneurs with practical startup resources.
In this round, 40 young people received 20 gilts to begin pig farming, while 26 youth who want to go into rabbit farming were supported with startup breeding stock and tools to kickstart their agribusiness journey. Each rabbit beneficiary received 1 buck and 1 doe (male and female rabbit); 2 bags of feed, a feeder and a drinker.
The initiative is designed to equip young people with tangible inputs that translate training into action, enabling them to start, manage, and grow their own livestock enterprises. “At KIC, we believe entrepreneurship begins with access to knowledge, tools, and opportunities. This distribution reflects our commitment to turning agribusiness ideas into real ventures,” highlighted Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director at KIC.
Through this support, the program continues to address youth unemployment, promote climate-smart animal production, and foster a generation of agripreneurs ready to transform Ghana’s food systems.
KIC Young Farmer Business Academy (YFBA) is a 4 –7-month program that identifies young people who are interested in setting up an agribusiness in agricultural production. The program provides them with a system of training, workshops, and hands-on experience to set up their own farms. The program was introduced by KIC as part of its implementation of the Initiative for Youth in Agricultural Transformation (IYAT), a program in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
The program uses practical sessions, field demonstrations, coaching and mentorship as a tool to encourage participants to take a fresh look at agri-production and its adjoining sectors to identify areas with potential business opportunities.
