Former Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah has revealed that he got to know Christian Atsu through his in-law.
Kwesi Appiah who handed Atsu a Black Stars debut said he didn’t know the former Chelsea winger till his in-law told him to check him out.
He said he was impressed after watching him for the first time and that is why he invited him for the AFCON qualifier against Lesotho in 2012.
“My in-law saw Christian Atsu and recommended him. I tracked him, watched some of his games, and realized that he could help us, so I invited him,” he said.
Christian Atsu went on to make 65 appearances for Ghana, scoring nine goals before his death in 2023.
