The Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association is threatening a nationwide demonstration if the government fails to establish a pension scheme, expand and strengthen their health insurance coverage, and provide quality healthcare for cocoa farmers.
GNACOFA has appealed to the government, demanding urgent reforms to improve the welfare and safety of cocoa farmers across the country.
According to the Association, cocoa farmers currently don’t have adequate social protection.
They are calling on the government to establish a pension scheme for cocoa farmers, expand and strengthen their health insurance coverage, and provide them quality health care.
They therefore appealed to the government to act on their demands; if not, they will organise a massive nationwide demonstration to press home their concerns.
On his part, the National President of the Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association (GHACOFA), Mr Stephenson Anane Boateng also expressed his worry about how the Cocoa Farmers struggle to be paid after selling their cocoa beans to the Buyers.
