Patrons at this year’s Chocolate Week celebration organised by the Ghana Free Zones Authority were treated to more than just tastings, as leading cocoa processors and value-added manufacturers demonstrated how Ghana’s cocoa is transformed from bean to finished product.

Product exhibitors at the event included the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), Plot Enterprise Ghana Limited, HPW, and Olam Food Ingredients (OFi). Together, they offered attendees an immersive look into their production processes, quality standards and export-ready product lines.

Plot Enterprise Ghana Limited showcased a range of cocoa-based and confectionery products, engaging patrons with detailed explanations of ingredient selection, product development and branding strategies for both local and export markets.

Company officials emphasised innovation in packaging and value addition, noting the growing demand for premium, Ghana-made cocoa products worldwide.

Representatived of HPW used the platform to demonstrate how Ghanaian cocoa and other ingredients are processed for international markets. They outlined their sourcing systems, quality assurance protocols and export supply chains.

The company also highlighted its contribution to job creation and its commitment to meeting strict international food safety standards under the Free Zones scheme.

Olam Food Ingredients (OFi) provided attendees with insights into large-scale cocoa processing and global distribution networks. Company representatives explained the stages of cocoa transformation, from bean cleaning and roasting to liquor, butter and powder production and how these intermediate products feed into chocolate manufacturing worldwide.

OFi also spoke about sustainability initiatives, farmer partnerships and traceability systems designed to ensure responsible sourcing across its value chain.

Strengthening Ghana’s Cocoa Value Chain

Beyond showcasing products, the exhibition served as an educational platform. Attendees engaged exhibitors on processing timelines, export requirements, certifications and the broader economic impact of cocoa value addition under the Free Zones Authority.

The participation of CPC, Plot Enterprise Ghana Limited, HPW and OFi reinforced the central message of the Chocolate Week celebration: that Ghana’s cocoa industry continues to evolve beyond raw bean exports toward advanced processing, industrial growth and increased foreign exchange earnings.

By opening their doors and their processes to the public, the exhibitors deepened appreciation for the expertise, technology and investment behind every chocolate product proudly made in Ghana.
