The Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Jerome Kwaku Sam, has announced an additional payment of GH¢854 million to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), raising total disbursements to GH¢1.091 billion.

The latest payment follows an earlier release of GH¢237 million covering 50,000 metric tonnes of cocoa.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Mr. Sam stated: “COCOBOD this morning, 19th Feb, 2026 has made payment of Ghc854m totalling Ghc1.091bn to LBCs.”

The payments come at a time when Ghana’s cocoa sector is grappling with liquidity challenges, with farmers complaining about delays in receiving payments for several months.

Meanwhile, government has introduced reforms, including a reduction in the producer price for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season.

The new producer price has been set at GH¢41,392 per tonne, equivalent to GH¢2,587 per bag. Authorities say the adjustment is aimed at cushioning farmers against declining global cocoa prices.

In a related development, COCOBOD disclosed that it expects to save approximately GH¢5 million monthly following salary cuts for executive management and senior staff.

Executives are to take a 20 per cent pay reduction, while senior staff will have 10 per cent deducted from their salaries.

The salary adjustments, which took effect immediately, will remain in force for the rest of the 2025/2026 crop year as part of broader efforts to address financial constraints within the cocoa sector.
