Commercial transport operators have issued a firm ultimatum to the government and the Ghana Police Service, demanding strict enforcement of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180) by May 19, 2025.
The operators expressed frustration over the unchecked trading on roads and pavements, which they argue poses safety risks and disrupts traffic flow.
Despite existing regulations prohibiting such activities, traders continue to operate on major roads, leading to congestion and increased hazards for both pedestrians and motorists.
The transport operators insist that while they are held to stringent regulatory standards, traders flouting the law face no significant consequences.
“If meaningful action is not taken, we will be forced to take drastic measures. On May 19, we will park our vehicles in protest to highlight the need for designated parking spaces and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.”
The operators in a statement have invited key government officials including the Ministers of Transport, Roads and Highways, Local Government and Religious Affairs, Trade and Industry, and Interior, to join them in a demonstration aimed at promoting safety and order in the transport sector.
