Following the recent fuel price hike in Ghana on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, transport fares are expected to increase by 15% in the coming days. The increase in transport fares is a result of the recent fuel price increment, according to Mr. David Agboado, the Public Relations Officer for the Concerned Drivers Association

Concerned Drivers are urging the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other transport unions to increase fares to mitigate the effect of the fuel price hike on their profit margins.

Mr. David Agboado expressed concern about the persistent surge in fuel prices in Ghana, attributing it to the poor management of the cedi against the US dollar.

He noted that the global price of fuel per barrel has remained stable over the past six months, suggesting that the frequent price hikes in Ghana are not driven by international market trends, but rather by the country’s currency fluctuations and economic mismanagement.
