Educationist, Stephen Nyaani, has proposed that television stations in Ghana should introduce educational shows as an alternative to learning given the close-downs of school amid the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.

In an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM, he explained that television stations should take advantage of the time children are at home to educate them.

“I recommend that TV stations adopt e-learning programs and show them at a time when the children are all at home. This is one of the ways to ensure that students do not lose out even when they are out of school”, he said.

He noted that even though this initiative will require funds, it was not impossible. He instanced that if as a country we are able to provide funds for a new voters’ register, we can also provide funds for an all-important initiative that involves the lives and future of our children.

“We can have the money to fund e-learning because we are even able to raise money to do a new voters’ register”, he added.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo directed that all public and private educational facilities in the country be closed down following the recording of confirmed Coronavirus cases in the country. He, however, directed that, final year students preparing to write the BECE and WASSCE should be exempted from the closure and receive tuition from their teachers as their examination is imminent.
