Coronavirus Outbreak: Chemical for disinfecting markets not toxic- AMA boss

The CEO of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mohammad Adjei Sowah, has revealed that the Assembly usage of Chlorine to disinfect the markets is unharmful.

In an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM, he revealed that “the chemical Chlorine that is used to disinfect the markets is the same chemical used in our waters by the Ghana Water Company as Chlorine fights off bacteria and viruses”.

He stated prior to this exercise, traders in the markets were provided with directives on how to cover their products so that the chemicals do not get into them.

In his closing remarks,he encouraged all to follow the social distancing directive to prevent the spread of Coronavirus disease in the country.

Following the President’s directive on measures to contain and prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease, the Accra Metropolitan is set to embark on a massive disinfection exercise across all public market centers within its jurisdiction today.
