President Akufo-Addo has assured football fans that the game will return soon but in a safe manner amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Football activities have been suspended in the country since March this due to the outbreak.

Ghana has recorded over 40,000 cases with over 200 dead cases.

The suspension has led to the cancellation of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League by the Ghana FA as well as all football-related activities.

Government as part of it measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus are yet to lift restrictions on contact sport especially football which is the passion of the nation.

The Ghana FA and the Sports Ministry is reported to be engaging the COVID-19 Task Team on ways to ensure the safe return of football amid the pandemic.

The Ghana FA has proposed October as the new date for the start of the 2020/21 football season which is subject to approval by the government.

President Akufo-Addo on his tour in the Western Region was asked in an interview on when football is likely to return as the government continues to ease restrictions on the social, political and economic aspects of life.

“Everybody knows I love football and the suspension has also affected me but it will be back very soon.. I don’t want to do anything that will hurt Ghanaians. I believe in one step at a time so gradually football will be back”, Akufo-Addo told Sky Power FM.
