Member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communication Team, Courage Nobi says the attitude of the Ghanaian populace will push the President to lockdown the country.

According to Courage, he has observed that Ghanaians are completely disregarding COVID-19 safety protocols put in place to protect them against contracting the virus.

Sadly, the politician noted Ghanaians know a lockdown has dire consequences on the economy of the country but still refuse to do the needful. “Most of us fear a lockdown but we are the same people disregarding safety protocols”.

In a discussion on Happy 98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben political talk show with Sefah-Danquah, Courage Nobi said, “We will definitely go under a lockdown. I went to the Makola market a few days back and a lot of people were not wearing the face mask. They were all walking around unconcerned and it was sad. We go to parties and they boldly write COVID-19 protocols strictly observed but in reality, that is not being done”.

On his account, Ghanaians are acting stubborn as a nation and with the country averaging about six hundred (600) positive cases of COVID-19 per day, “we will be placed under a lockdown”.

Expressing his fear of the possibility of the virus going on a rampage, Courage insisted that a lockdown is the only way to make the country safe. “If we don’t lockdown the country and the virus spreads, there will be trouble”.

He pleaded with the President Akufo-Addo led government to reintroduce restrictions it did in the past when the virus was at its peak. “The restrictions should come early as that will help control the spread. If the number of positive cases reduce, then, we can ease these restrictions gradually. Ghanaians must understand the lockdown if placed, will be for their safety”.

On Saturday, March 28, President Nana Akufo-Addo announced a lockdown on the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area and the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area from Monday, March 30, due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Citizens were advised to stay home as much as possible for a period of two weeks which was eventually extended by another week with inter-city travel for private and commercial purposes, except for essential goods and services, being suspended.
