COVID-19 is not an instant killer- Dr Pamboe

CAF Medical Officer, Dr Prince Pamboe, says the coronavirus is not an instant killer as perceived by the public, and a lot of people do recover from it after contracting the disease.

There has been a partial lockdown in some cities in the country to contain and stop the spread of the virus. Ghana has recorded a total of 287 cases as of 7 April, 2020 with five people confirmed dead.

Dr Pambo described the Covid-19 as a monster which is causing havoc across the globe.

In an interview on Happy FM’s special program to mark the International World Health Day to celebrate health personnel in the country, and to educate people who contract the disease to seek early treatment, he said, “the way the coronavirus kills is not serious unlike what we hear overseas. The death rate is 3.5%.

“If 10 people contract the disease it is likely three people will die, and those with serious health conditions are the most vulnerable. So I will urge everybody to obey the protocols and just stay at home”.

“What we can do at this point to save ourselves is to stay at home. We haven’t gotten a vaccine for the disease. All they are using for treatment now is working and saving some lives. Some respond to the treatment others do not”.

He added: “Ghanaians should stay at home and abide by the rules and also practice good hygiene to protect themselves from the disease.
