Former Black Queens coach, Bashiru Hayford, has supported the views of some coaches that Ghana Premier League players will need up to six weeks to prepare for the league if the season will continue amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Bashiru Hayford was addressing issues raised by some high-profile coaches who spoke on Happy FM’s virtual program to discuss the effects of the coronavirus from the perspective of coaches on Thursday 4 June 2020.

Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu, Hearts of Oak coach Edward Nii Odoom, Paa Kwasi Fabian of Aduana Stars and Mercy Quarcoo-Tagoe had all stated that for premier league clubs to continue the season will require at least six weeks of preparations and the female teams eight weeks.

The veteran coach made this statement in an interview on Ghana’s number one Sports Station with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports.

“What the coaches said is purely technical. With COVID-19, now I am afraid of the fitness and the conditioning of the players. Now they need proper training with supervision from the coaches. So I agree with them”, he told Happy 98.9FM.

“If the Ghana Football Association will continue with the current season then they will need a grace period to allow the players prepare and train if not injuries will set in when they start”, he added.
