Former Deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yamin, says it is very disappointing for government to ignore the football industry in its stimulus package for distressed organizations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Ghana Football Association plea to government to be considered for the stimulus package to be shared for organization that have been hit by the pandemic was unsuccessful as the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) in charge of distributing the funds announced that football clubs were not factored.

According to Joseph Yamin, government ignoring football clubs at this moment shows that they do not care about the them.

“It is very disappointing government not to consider football fraternity Is very bad. The government doesn’t care about the industry if not they would have made plans for the Ministry”, he told Happy FM.

He added, “The Sports Minister has failed in that regard, the Minister should have something in place even without the help of the government for the clubs. For instance a contingency fund in the budget where they can support the clubs during these times”.

Football administrator, Takyi Arhin also added his voice on football clubs being snubbed by the government from receiving the COVID-19 relief funds.

“What sin has football people committed that we are not part of the package.

“Football is a serious business and we employ about 4000 people. We pay taxes and also we are citizens.

“We have sent a proposal to government and still waiting for them”, he added.
