Ghanaian-US based Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Bertha Serwaa Ayi has registered her disappointment at the World Health Organization (WHO) for contributing to the global outbreak of the COVID-19.

According to her, the world health body’s constant opposition to imposing travel restrictions to places with outbreaks of the coronavirus is why the world is now suffering.

She made these statements on Happy98.9FM’s Happy Morning Show: “In February this year, the W.H.O. had advised against imposing travel restrictions to places with outbreaks of the coronavirus, saying it was not an effective way to combat its spread. But the virus is like a Christmas package being transmitted across borders”.

According to her, had the WHO listened to world leaders and closed China’s borders in January instead of
accusing them of xenophobia, the virus would not have become a pandemic.

On her authority it was not prudent for the WHO to just trust that China could have fought the virus off on its own. “I am saying this because I was monitoring the situation and waiting for WHO to react as far back as early January but they didn’t. They were wrong to do so”, she stated.

Dr. Ayi revealed that with the world still suffering the virus on such a large scale, the world health body has still not spoken in support of travel restrictions and it is understandable the erratic President Donald Trump has decided to pull America’s funding to WHO.

America’s top infectious disease expert believes President Trump is angered by the health body’s seemingly unconcerned behavior and may want to invest in somewhere viable to help fight the virus in America, but she does not agree with the action.

President Trump on Tuesday said that he planned to stop United States funding of the World Health Organization while reviewing its role in what he described as “severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus”.

The US President blamed the organization for a “20-fold” increase in cases worldwide because of their opposition to travel restrictions which Trump believes could have saved “thousands and thousands of lives”.
