The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has scheduled Wednesday, September 4th, to elect its flagbearer for the upcoming December 7 general election.

This decision was made during an emergency National Executives Council meeting in Kumasi.

The primary focus of the meeting was to set a date for the flagbearer election, while members of the National Executive Council also discussed various issues impacting the party’s progress.

After thorough discussions, the members agreed to hold the flagbearer election on the 4th of next month, with voting taking place across all regions of the country.

Two candidates have expressed their intention to run: Lawyer Frimpong Yaw Anokye, a private legal practitioner, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, the party’s immediate past chairperson.

During the meeting, Eben Agbenya Aszormahe, the Secretary to the Congress Committee, outlined the election’s modalities. Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, the immediate past chairperson of the CPP, expressed confidence in securing the party’s flagbearer position.

Meanwhile, Lawyer Frimpong Yaw Anokye, another flagbearer hopeful, believes he is the most marketable candidate capable of winning over Ghanaians and leading the CPP to victory, despite the limited time before the general election.

The party acknowledged that it is behind schedule in its campaign efforts but remains hopeful to ramp up activities immediately after the presidential primary concludes.
