Democracy cause of disrespect to military – Major Derrick Oduro

Deputy Minister of Defence, Major Derrick Oduro, has said that democracy has contributed to the apparent disrespect for the military in Ghana.

‘’It is because of democracy that is why chiefs have been able to sell lands earmarked for military purposes,”he said.

He made these comments on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show in reaction to the Wednesday morning fire that engulfed the armoury of the Michel Camp Barracks, the base of the First Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He also indicated that this has led to heavy encroachment on lands belonging to the base by developers and other institutions and this put civilians at risks when such fire disasters strike.

However, according to earlier reports military chiefs from the Ghana Armed Forces say they are unsure what triggered the fire.
