Katleen Thijsm, the wife of Black Stars defender Denis Odoi, hopes her husband gets to enjoy some game time for Ghana in the on-going FIFA World Cup.

The 34-year-old made Ghana’s final squad for the World Cup after making his debut in March in the World Cup playoff against Nigeria.

Odoi who started in Ghana’s doubleheader against Nigeria in the World Cup playoffs and the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, faces a lot of competition following the arrival of Tariq Lamptey and Alidu Seidu.

Coach Otto Addo picked Alidu Seidu in his starting lineup to face Portugal on Thursday at the Stadium 974.

Tariq Lamptey later replaced Alidu Seidu in the second half reducing Denis Odoi to the bench.

Katleen Thijsm, who traveled with his two children from Belgium to Qatar was hoping to see his husband in the white shirts playing for Ghana in the opening game.

However, she was not disappointed his husband did not feature in the game but was thankful and happy the former Fulham defender made Ghana’s World Cup squad.

Speaking in an interview with Herbert Boakye Yiadom after the Portugal game, she said,

“We were very happy to be here because Denis Odoi was chosen to play for Ghana; being part of the Ghana community and seeing the people of Ghana celebrate and support the team is an amazing feeling.”

“Fortunately, this is not the result we wanted, but we are happy that we were here and we could feel the atmosphere and see the team play in a nice stadium.”

“Mostly it will be nice of us to see him play but the coach puts the best players on the pitch.”

“Hopefully one of the next games he will get some minutes”, she added.
