The National Youth Coordinator of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has denied attributions to him saying the decision by President Akufo-Addo to lift the lockdown means he (Prez) has run out of ideas.

According to him, he never made that statement as reported by an Accra based radio station.
Speaking on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ hosted by Kwame Afrifa, he said, “Being fair and honest, I’ve not said anything of the sort. The President has not run out of ideas to control the spread of COVID-19. If someone wants to say something, he should say it and stop trying to attach it to me.”

Divine insisted that the statement he made only sought to alert the President that he would be held accountable if the lockdown was lifted with an ulterior motive which would benefit his (Prez) parochial interest.

He believes the lockdown was lifted because of the human element and the economic situation suffered by the nation, “the President’s decision is about us he did not lift the lockdown for our deaths.”

On his authority, it is too early to commend or condemn the President’s decision to lift the lockdown. But it would be a “win-win situation if after the lifting the lockdown nothing bad happens” with regard to further infection and spread of COVID-19 but should the situation escalate, the President’s decision would have backfired.

The politician asked Ghanaians to support the President’s decision and take their safety into their own hands.

In the President’s 7th address to the nation, he lifted the partial lockdown placed on some parts of the country 3 weeks ago

However, Ban on public gatherings, including religious activities, parties, beaches, clubs is still in force across the country with schools and universities also remaining closed.

The President also disclosed that communities in which the cases of infection becomes prevalent will be locked down until there is a clear understanding of the trajectory of the virus.
