The Dormaa East District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Salifu Braimah, has cautioned residents to avoid any activities that could trigger fire outbreaks as the Harmattan season approaches.
Mr. Braimah emphasized that NADMO’s mandate includes educating the public on disaster-prevention measures, especially during high-risk periods. “We are entering a time when the weather is becoming increasingly dry,” he said. “Even a small act of carelessness with fire can lead to devastating consequences, putting lives and property at risk.”
He particularly advised farmers to prepare their meals at home before heading to their farms, warning that cooking on farmlands during the dry season is dangerous. “A stray spark or ember can easily ignite dry grass and destroy entire farms,” he cautioned.
The NADMO director’s remarks come amid a rise in bushfires and related incidents across the Bono Region during the dry months. He urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid open burning, and promptly report any fire outbreaks or suspicious activities to local authorities.
