The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed shock and sorrow over the killing of some Ghanaian traders and the injury of several others in a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Monday, February 16, Dr. Bawumia said he had received the news with deep distress, describing the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
He extended condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the NPP and his wife, Samira Bawumia, and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
“The NPP, Samira and I express our condolences to the families of the bereaved and our best wishes to the injured,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that Ghanaian traders must not be left vulnerable to such dangers while conducting legitimate business activities across borders.
He called on the government to intensify intelligence-sharing and security collaboration with neighboring countries to safeguard Ghanaians wherever they may be.
He further urged authorities to strengthen Ghana’s existing framework for preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism, noting that the evolving security threats in the sub-region require renewed commitment and coordinated action.
