Vice President and Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on all security personnel and journalists as they head to the polls as special voters to vote for him.

The special voting exercise which is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 2, 2024 is a key exercise within the electoral process, held days before the general elections for specific groups including electoral commission staff, security forces and journalists to cast their votes.

The Vice President in an address to these key groups explained that the ruling government NPP, since 2016, has done tremendously well in enhancing the security forces and their way of operations. “We inherited a security sector facing numerous challenges – from internal disputes to a stretched thin workforce. The need for comprehensive reform was clear.”

Dr. Bawumia highlighted significant improvements in Ghana’s security forces, including an increase in personnel, with the Police Service now having over 46,000 officers—almost 13,000 more than before—and the Fire Service growing to 15,000 officers. He also emphasized the addition of essential equipment, such as advanced surveillance tools like street CCTV cameras and three helicopters, to enhance the efficiency of security operations.

The Presidential candidate urged media professionals in Ghana to support his bid, highlighting the government’s efforts to facilitate their work through initiatives such as the introduction of 5G technology, the expansion of broadband and network services nationwide, and the establishment of the globally recognized University of Media Arts and Communication (UNIMAC).

Dr. Bawumia also appealed to both security and media personnel to vote for him, promising to complete ongoing projects and improve the living standards of all Ghanaians by delivering better opportunities and enhanced quality of life.
