A non-governmental organization, Love Without Walls, has handed over a newly constructed Children’s Medical and Wellness Centre to the Suhum Government Hospital in the Eastern Region.
The facility, aimed at improving pediatric healthcare delivery, is expected to ease congestion and enhance the quality of care for children within the hospital’s catchment area.
At the commissioning ceremony held on Saturday, March 21, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Love Without Walls, Dr. Hartford Dawson, recounted the inspiration behind the project.
He revealed that his first visit to Suhum in 2014 exposed him to the challenges facing child healthcare in the area, particularly the lack of space.
He shared a personal experience of a life-threatening illness he suffered after returning to the United States, describing it as a turning point that deepened his resolve to support children in Suhum.
Dr. Dawson encouraged other non-governmental organizations to remain committed to impactful initiatives, emphasizing that anyone willing can be used to achieve great things.
He also disclosed that his organization has a long-term commitment to the facility, backed by a 10-year support plan to ensure its sustainability.

The Medical Superintendent of the Suhum Government Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Tijani Sulemana, described the project as the first of its kind in the Eastern Region.
He noted that the previous children’s ward was inadequate to meet growing demand, making the new facility a significant upgrade.
He commended Dr. Dawson for his dedication and faith throughout the project, stating that the completion of the centre fulfills a long-standing promise to the people of Suhum.
He added that quality healthcare infrastructure is essential in shaping the future of children and expressed confidence that the new facility meets the required standards for improved service delivery.

The Paramount Chief of Suhum, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi, expressed gratitude to the NGO for what he described as a transformative gift to the community.
He urged residents and stakeholders to take good care of the facility to ensure it serves both present and future generations.
The new Children’s Medical and Wellness Centre is expected to significantly strengthen pediatric healthcare services in Suhum and its surrounding communities.
