President of policy think tank IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe, has said Minister of Communications Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful along with others involved in the Kelni GVG deal must be sacked following the dismissal of Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei and her two deputies.
According to Mr. Cudjoe, the dismissal of Mrs. Osei and her two deputies presents an opportunity for IMANI Africa to carefully scrutinize other corrupt institutions.
The EC chair, Charlotte Osei along with her two deputies, Georgina Opoku Amankwaah and Sulley Amadu were fired by the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Minister of Information, Dr. Mustapha Hamid, in a statement issued Thursday, June 28, 2018, announced the removal from office of Charlotte Osei and her two deputies- Georgina Opoku Amankwaah and Sulley Amadu- for misbehaviour and incompetence.
The removal is on the recommendation of a committee set up by the Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo to investigate alleged acts of corruption, misconduct and misbehaviour by the three commissioners, the statement indicated.
However, Mr. Cudjoe who was speaking on Citi FM’s news analysis programme, The Big Issue, Franklin Cudjoe indicated that it was time for heads to roll over the Kelni GVG Contract following the removal of the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, and her two deputies.
He maintained that there were also procurement violations in the awarding of the $89 million contract over the five-year period.
“As Electoral Commissioners Fall on Violations of Public Procurement Act, and the Public Financial Management Act, controversial $178m Kelni GVG Contract [over 10 years] must suffer same and more,” Franklin Cudjoe said in a statement.
“We need to uphold the rule of law at all times. Now, let us look at the curious case of the KelniGVG contract supervised solely by the Ministry of Communications and how it also violates the Public Procurement Act, and the Public Financial Management Act,” he added.
