The Electoral Commission (EC) has called on political parties to immediately withdraw their supporters from collation centers across the country.
Addressing an emergency press conference on Sunday, December 8, the Director in Charge of Operations at the EC, Samuel Tettey announced that the presence of supporters at these centers, contrary to regulations, is hindering the collation process and disrupting operations.
He reminded all political parties that only two representatives per party are permitted at each collation center. The unauthorized gathering of supporters has created unnecessary tension and undermined the integrity of the process. He also urged security agencies to take action to restore order in affected centers.
He noted that incidents such as one reported in the Tano South Constituency in the Ahafo Region, where political agents allegedly forced a returning officer to declare parliamentary results without collation, are particularly alarming.
He reiterated that the Commission will not accept results announced without proper collation and will not be recognized.
He appealed to both permanent and temporary staff to resist undue pressure and l adheres to laid-down procedures. He also urged political party leadership to take responsibility and ensure their supporters comply with the rules to safeguard the credibility of the electoral process.
