The Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, staged a walkout during the ongoing vetting of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Speaking before the Appointments Committee, Afenyo-Markin announced the Minority’s dissociation from the vetting process and expressed a firm rejection of the nominee.
“We want to state on record that the Majority may proceed with the vetting. We do not intend to participate in any questions,” he said.
The Minority Leader explained that the caucus’ decision stems from preliminary legal concerns, which justify their withdrawal from the proceedings.
“We are registering, in the strongest terms, our rejection of the nomination. The records should reflect that the report of this committee will be a majority report,” he added.
The walkout marks a dramatic escalation in the vetting process and highlights the ongoing tension between the Majority and Minority over the appointment of Ghana’s next Chief Justice.
