Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has proposed that 2.5 percent of Ghana’s oil revenue be dedicated to scholarships and bursaries to sustain the No Fees Stress Policy.

Addressing a stakeholders’ engagement organized by the Students Loan Trust Fund, the Minister explained that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) alone cannot support the policy in the long term, hence the need for additional funding from oil resources.

He also recommended the creation of a Scholarship and Bursaries Authority to oversee and ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

Haruna Iddrisu recalled how, in the past, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) frequently questioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to social interventions. With the rollout of the No Fees Stress Policy, he said, the NDC can now point to a distinct and impactful social initiative of its own.
