Egypt crowned 2026 African Handball champions in Kigali

The 27th Men’s Senior Handball Africa Cup of Nations, Kigali 2026 has officially come to a close, marking the end of a thrilling and fiercely contested tournament that brought together the best handball nations from across the continent. Egypt emerged victorious, securing their 10th continental title and further cementing their dominance in African handball.

In a highly anticipated final, Egypt delivered a commanding performance to defeat North African rivals Tunisia 37–24, claiming the gold medal in emphatic fashion. Tunisia settled for silver after a strong tournament run, while Cape Verde captured the bronze medal with an impressive 29–23 victory over Algeria in the third-place playoff.

Elsewhere, Gabon finished their campaign on a positive note by winning the President’s Cup after a closely fought 29–27 win against Cameroon, earning ninth place in the overall standings.The Confederation of African Handball (CAHB), in collaboration with the Local Organising Committee, expressed its sincere gratitude to the Government of Rwanda, participating teams, match officials, volunteers, sponsors, media partners, and passionate fans. Their collective support, professionalism, and sportsmanship were instrumental in the successful delivery of the championship.

Beyond the on-court action, the tournament highlighted Rwanda’s growing stature as a premier host for major international sporting events. Kigali 2026 not only celebrated sporting excellence but also left a lasting legacy for the development and promotion of handball across Africa.
