The leader of Movement for Change (M4C) and Alliance for Revolutionary Change, Alan Kyerematen is championing the call for a forensic audit of Ghana’s voters register. He’s advocating for a high-level Technical Working Group (TWG), led by the Electoral Commission (EC), to oversee this process from September 30 to October 11.

In a letter to the EC dated September 23, Nana Ohene-Ntow, M4C’s Director of Elections Planning and Coordination, emphasized the need for this collaborative approach. The proposed TWG would comprise representatives of cleared candidates for the General Elections and consultants handling EC data anagement. The TWG would ensure transparency and credibility in the audit process.

He stated, the Technical Working Group will establish a comprehensive process to audit the current Voter Register, utilizing the following key documents: (I) The 2020 Final Voters Register (II) Limited Registration Information from 2021 onwards (III) Voter Transfers affected since 2021 (IV) Special Voters Lists from 2020 to date. To ensure transparency and credibility, each Technical Working Group member will receive original copies of these documents. This access enables them to verify the accuracy of the entries, guaranteeing a reliable audit outcome.

Candidates cleared to contest the General Elections, with evidence of compromised data in the current Voter Register, must submit written documentation to all Technical Working Group members prior to the audit’s commencement. This evidence will facilitate a collaborative comparative review, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. Upon completion, the outcome of this process will be considered the definitive Voter Register for the 2024 General Elections.

Alan Kyerematen fully supports the call for a forensic audit of the voter register, a move that echoes the demands of many Ghanaian citizens. He believes the proposed process will ensure a voter register that’s credible and widely accepted by all contestants and voters in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

The proposed timeline for the voter register audit spans from September 30, 2024, to October 11, 2024. This timeline allows the Electoral Commission to release the final voter register by October 14, 2024.

Alan believes collaborating to resolve voter register doubts ensures transparency and settles lingering issues. This joint approach paves the way for a free, fair, transparent, and credible General Election on December 7, 2024.
