Election Watch Ghana has given the Electoral Commission a fourteen (14) day ultimatum to provide details on the contractual agreement between the Commission and Assembly Press and Buck Press.

‘’Section 18 of the Right To Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) guarantees every Ghanaian citizen the right to access information. Articles 21(0) and 35(8) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana emphasized transparency and accountability in public affairs. We expect a response within the stipulated 14-day period, as provided by Section 22 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989)’’.

The Group has demanded for a detailed information from the Electoral Commission about the companies that did the bidding, and the selection processes involved as well as the minutes of meeting, pursuant to section 18 of the Right To Information Act, 2019.

According to an RTI request from the Group, the Electoral Commission should provide a detailed procurement process for the printing of ballots and notice of polls.

‘’Failure to provide the requested information within the stipulated time frame may lead to an appeal to the Information Commission, as per Section 29 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Ac: 959)’’.

The Group believes that to ensure transparency and accountability in public affairs, the Election Commission should respond to their request within a 14 day period.

This was contained in a Right To Information (RTI) request by Election Watch to the Electoral Commission, signed by its Lead Convenor Mark Ewusi Arkoh.
