The Electoral Commission (EC) has strongly refuted allegations that the December 7 general elections could be rigged.

The Commission emphasized that its robust systems and structures ensure the polls cannot be tampered with.

Speaking in an interview on an Accra based television station on Saturday, the EC’s Deputy Chairperson, Dr. Bossman Asare, emphatically stated that elections are won at polling stations.

According to him, ballot counting is conducted transparently at each polling station immediately after voting, in the presence of the public.

“When we had the peace pact, she (EC Chairperson) made it very clear – we’ve always known that elections are won at the polling stations, and that has not changed,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the results declared at the polling stations form the foundation for determining the winners of both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

“Because the counting is done in the full glare of the public, whatever is counted there forms the basis,” he stated.

Dr. Asare encouraged Ghanaians to actively participate in the elections, assuring them that their votes would directly determine the persons who will be declared winners.

“The constituency coalition center is just a matter of amalgamation. We are putting the figures together. But in reality, what takes place at the polling station is the basis of the declarations for the parliamentary and the presidential,” the Deputy EC Chair added.
