The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has disclosed that the commission has made substantial progress in cleaning the provisional voters register and eliminating discrepancies since it was first exhibited at over forty thousand exhibition centers nationwide.

According to her, the commission has employed established legal and administrative processes to address the provisional register and rectify discrepancies, as intended by the framers of the 1992 Constitution and CI 91, as amended by CI 126.

Speaking at the EC’s IPAC meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Madam Jean Mensa stated that the commission can confidently assert that most of the discrepancies identified to date have been resolved.

She noted that in recent weeks, there have been public discussions regarding the credibility of the provisional voters register, with the largest opposition party, the NDC, alleging that the discrepancies found in the register render it unfit for the 2024 elections.

In response, she stated that the NDC has called for a forensic audit of the provisional voters register but emphasized that it is crucial to recognize that the discrepancies initially identified in the provisional voters register are widespread across all regions. She clarified that claims suggesting the provisional voters register is intended to disenfranchise certain voters in specific areas are unfounded.

She reiterated that they have effectively cleaned up the provisional voters register and corrected all discrepancies identified to date.
