COVID-19: Ghanaians have not been educated enough - Fmr. GMA General Secretary

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Welfare Officer of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Benjamin Yeboah has said that authorities obligated to enforce the COVID-19 protocols are doing their best to carry out their mandate.

However, some sections of the population have failed to heed to the rules.

Benjamin believed that from the enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols to the closing of borders, the government is doing all it can to contain the virus while preventing the importation of the virus.

Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, the Welfare Officer, however, expressed his disappointment in some Ghanaians when he said: “From AMA right to ECG head office in Accra, there has been an enforcement of the wearing of nose masks. Even though the law on the wearing of nose masks has been passed, the enforcement may be another thing. It is a problem with Ghanaians. When the police tried enforcing the COVID-19 protocols, people were complaining that they were being harassed.”

Benjamin urged the media to continue to sensitize the public on the danger of ignoring the COVID-19 protocols as he believes COVID-19 education is a shared responsibility.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, delivered his 27th address to Ghanaians on the measures taken by the government to fight the COVID-19 disease.

In his speech the President Akufo-Addo addressed some COVID-19-related issues including some of the conspiracy theories ongoing against the vaccines.

He also turned down calls for the reopening of Ghana’s land borders as according to him, “this is not the right time to reopen our land borders.”

“We are monitoring the level of threat of the disease and ongoing vaccinations in our neighbouring countries, and, as soon as we are satisfied that it is safe to do so, the borders will be opened. Until then, I believe this is not the right time to reopen our land borders, especially as we are determined to prevent the 4th wave, and, as such, they will remain closed until further notice,” the President stated.
