Eswatini receives 10 US deportees amid ongoing legal challenge

Eswatini has accepted the arrival of 10 individuals deported from the United States, despite ongoing legal efforts by local rights groups to block the move.

This marks the second group of deportees sent to the country under the Trump administration’s strict immigration policy.

According to a statement from Eswatini’s prison services, the individuals have been “securely accommodated” and do not pose a threat to public safety.

However, human rights lawyer Mzwandile Masuku expressed his dismay, telling the BBC he was “shocked and dismayed” that the government proceeded with the deportations while a legal case challenging the arrival of a previous group of five deportees in July remains unresolved.

The US had described the earlier group, who were from Jamaica, Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, and Yemen, as “depraved monsters.” Eswatini officials have since confirmed that the Jamaican national has been repatriated to his home country, with two others expected to follow soon.
