Ghanaian prolific musician, Fameye, has reacted to people who claim that his ‘Mati’ song does not deserve a nomination under dancehall category in 3Music Awards, by stating that the song’s rhythm is a dancehall rhythm which plays a large part in determining the category for the song.

Fameye’s nomination of his ‘Mati’ song in the dancehall category of the awards scheme was met by mix reactions from Ghanaians. Whilst some have commended the artiste on his nomination, others are skeptical about the category of the artiste’s nomination.

In an interview with Happy FM’s DJ Advicer on the ‘Ayekoo After Drive’ show, he explained: “Mati is dancehall because the beat is a dancehall beat. Artistes who have used this beat previously are all dancehall artistes. It is because I sing in Twi that is why people will say it is not dancehall. The fact that I am not a dancehall artiste doesn’t mean I can’t be nominated for a dancehall song. I just rode on a dancehall rhythm to produce a dancehall music.

He furthered that the production and rhythm of a song far outweighs the words or language in a song when determining the category of a music.

Fameye is, however, busy producing an ep titled ‘take me do’, which is a word-for-word translation of his stage name, ‘Fameye’.
