Fifteen people were injured, two seriously, after a pair of South Korean Air Force KF-16 fighter jets accidentally dropped eight bombs in a civilian district during a live-fire exercise.
The incident took place in Pocheon, near the North Korean border, as part of routine drills to maintain combat readiness.
The South Korean Air Force has apologized for the incident, pledging to provide compensation to those affected.
Initial reports suggest that incorrect coordinates led to the bombs dropping in the civilian area. The military has suspended all live-fire exercises pending an investigation.
The explosion caused significant damage to a church building and several houses, with local residents describing the event as sounding “like a thunderclap.”
