Forgive Koku Anyidoho – NPP chairman pleads with Nana Addo

The Tema West chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Amfo Sefah, has pleaded with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to forgive Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho over his alleged coup comments.
The tough-talking NDC politician stated on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben Show on Monday, March 26, that the president Akufo-Addo will be ousted by Coup d’tat just like his father and K.A Busia after agreeing a military pact with the United States of America.
And according to Hon. Sefah, Anyidoho had been cut to size already hence must not be punished.
“His Excellency has a fierce reputation as a human rights champion and I dare say that reputation overlaps with his humanity as well. Koku Anyidoho will deserve to be dealt with severely, but to what end? Nana as President is not only our leader but also our father, and when a child misbehaves, a father does not throw him away, he spanks him. I believe Koku has been spanked well.”
Koku Anyidoho was arrested and detained by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) pending investigations into his statement that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was likely to suffer the fate of his father who was overthrown as President by a military coup in 1972.
“Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself,” he said.
“On the January 13, 1972 a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led a movement that removed the Progress Party from power. Busia was the Prime Minister and Akufo-Addo’s father was a ceremonial president. Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself. There’ll be a civil revolt. There’ll be a people’s movement. During President John Mahama’s tenure didn’t we receive similar threats from the likes of Let My Vote Count and OccupyGhana,” he added.
He noted: “There’ll be a civilian coup d’etat; there’ll be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday. He [Akufo-Addo] will be fed up at the Presidency.”
It is unclear if the state has the intent of pursuing treason charges against Mr Anyidoho, but the Tema West NPP Chairman thinks that President Akufo-Addo should let the matter go.
Speaking on the development, he said “Already, the NDC has claimed that the arrest and detention of Koku Anyidoho was an attack on free speech. Even so, it is said that the first casualty of war is usually the truth. And the truth is that President Akufo-Addo is not a vindictive leader of a brutal regime. I will, therefore, plead that he forgives Koku Anyidoho.”
