Former Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu-Gyan, is urging the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on rebuilding the party from the grassroots before electing a flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Speaking to the media in Techiman, the former Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman and 2004 Parliamentary Candidate for Kintampo South warned that electing a flagbearer without first addressing internal challenges could spell doom for the party.
Mr. Adu-Gyan proposed a constitutional amendment to expand the Electoral College. He wants all current and former party executives, officers, and appointees—both home and abroad—who have served since 1992 and owe allegiance to the party to be included.
He also suggested that elections for party executives, from the constituency to the presidential level, should take place simultaneously at Special Constituency Delegates Congresses across the country.
Mr. Adu-Gyan cautioned the party’s leadership against relying on a top-down approach in selecting executives. He argued that the NPP’s “tattered flag” must be mended before anyone is chosen to bear it.
He admitted the party is facing a serious leadership crisis and called on all loyal members, home and abroad, to take keen interest in who leads the party—especially at the national level.
