GES extends deadline for school selection to June 25, 2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially extended the deadline for the ongoing school selection process for Junior High School (JHS) students to Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

The extension, according to a press statement signed by Prince E. Agyemang-Duah, Director of Schools and Instructions Division, was necessitated by the inclusion of private Senior High Schools (SHSs) in this year’s selection process.

This change, GES noted, requires additional time to enable students make informed and well-thought-out choices.

“All existing guidelines and procedures for the school selection process remain unchanged. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their teachers, parents, and guardians to make informed decisions regarding their second cycle school education,” the statement emphasized

Regional Directors have been instructed to communicate the new deadline to all Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.

These officers are expected to ensure that JHS headteachers inform final-year students of the revised timeline and encourage them to take full advantage of the additional time.

GES has also attached a supplementary register listing newly added private second-cycle schools for reference and guidance during the selection process.

The directive is part of GES’s effort to enhance transparency and inclusiveness in the school placement system, giving students broader access to both public and private senior high school options.
