Aduana Stars General Manager, Takyi Arhin, has addressed the disqualification of former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, from the Association’s elections. Arhin, a prominent figure in Ghana football, expressed his views on the matter and offered a stern warning to Afriyie.

The disqualification of George Afriyie, who is a contender in the upcoming GFA elections, sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian football community.

The Elections Committee’s decision was reached following the completion of the first phase of the vetting process, which involved both Afriyie and incumbent FA boss Kurt E.S Okraku.

In the interview on Happy FM’s Happy Sports, Aduana, Takyi Arhin stated, “The rules are simple, and as a former GFA vice president, it is expected that he knows these things better. He is supposed to get six endorsements from directors of clubs, how difficult is that? I would advise that they keep quiet and suffer because should they appeal, it would be a waste of time because the rules of the game were breached.”

George Afriyie now faces a limited window of just three days to appeal the Elections Committee’s decision.

The committee cited Afriyie’s breach of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” as well as his “failure to provide the required number of Ghana Football Association members to support your candidature” as the reasons for his disqualification.

While Afriyie contemplates his next move, the elections have hit a significant roadblock.

The Elections Committee has suspended all election processes in response to a court injunction obtained by King Faisal, a club relegated from the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

This legal development has added further complexity to an already intense election season.
