Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has pledged the country’s strong commitment to protecting refugees and promoting durable solutions to displacement challenges.

Speaking at the 76th Annual Plenary Session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Executive Committee in Geneva, Mr. Muntaka emphasized that Ghana continues to uphold its humanitarian responsibilities and remains steadfast in advancing the ideals of the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR).

He noted that Ghana has made significant progress in working with countries of origin to ensure the efficient implementation of all aspects of durable solutions, including legal and social reintegration processes.

Highlighting Ghana’s ongoing initiatives, the Minister disclosed that the government is collaborating with the UNHCR to implement the Ghana Refugee Agribusiness Sustainability Programme (GRASP).

The initiative, he said, seeks to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for refugees and their host communities through agribusiness ventures.

Mr. Muntaka further revealed that Ghana is also partnering with neighbouring countries to develop a sub-regional strategy aimed at reinforcing national security while ensuring the protection of refugees and facilitating long-term solutions to their challenges.

He commended the outgoing UNHCR High Commissioner, Mr. Filippo Grandi, for his exceptional leadership and tireless dedication to safeguarding the rights and welfare of refugees worldwide.

The Minister pledged Ghana’s readiness to continue working closely with the UNHCR and other international partners to strengthen global efforts toward refugee protection and sustainable development.
